The Christian Mind Sunday School class

Fall 2022 Adult Sunday school

What is your concept of faith? Does it include the use of your intellect and reason? The Bible shows that our minds are made new. What are the implications of having a renewed mind? Join us over the next 13 weeks as we discuss how the Bible speaks about the Christian mind. We'll discuss faith and reason, worldview issues, how Christians can interact with science and the arts, and more.

We are using The Christian Mind, Escaping Futility by William Edgar as a guide for this study.

Are Christians mindless? Is Paul arguing against the use of reason in 1 Corinthians 2 when he writes that our "faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God"? This Sunday, we'll discuss how the church has erred in promoting anti-intellectualism. We'll also explore the opposite danger of intellectualism. In this introduction to the series, we'll begin to scratch the surface of the biblical view of Christian thought.

Our Mind and the Gospel - The darkening of the human mind against God is not a new phenomenon. We have walked in the futility of our minds since Adam sinned against God. However, our duty as creatures is to love God and our neighbor. Does God leave us alone in this endeavor, expecting the impossible of us? This Sunday, we'll look at the necessity of the gospel in renewing our minds. This topic is foundational and of utmost importance in this series on the Christian mind.

Science and religion are often pitted against one another in a battle for truth. It doesn't need to be this way. Instead, we should look to science as a tool to investigate the wonder of God's ways and we can use science to declare His glory in the created realm.

This Sunday, we are concluding our study on the Christian mind. This last class will deal with practical issues related to the believer's thinking and worldview. How should we view our roles in society, culture, and the arts? How ought we to live?
